<p>Just quick reminders of what PGX does.  Basically it is extremely nutritious.  It is a high concentration of fibre blends.  It contains both <em><strong>insoluble and soluble</strong></em> fibres.  <em><strong>As Dr. Oz says, the average woman in North America only gets 12 grams of fibre per day, but as most health experts say, it is recommended to have 30 to 35 grams of fibre per day. </strong></em> Fibre is your veges, hearty breads, flax, psyllium husks and foods we most often do not like to eat.  There is no excuse anymore since PGX is there to help make sure you get it into your daily routine. </p>

<p><strong>What is Phase 2? And HOW does it Work?</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>Phase 2 contains (Phaseolamin 2250) this is an exclusive all natural compound extracted from a portion of the white kidney bean</strong></em>.  Through numerous studies, Phase 2 has been found effective in neutralizing carbohydrates safely!  Therefore, Phase 2 prevents starch from being converted into sugar and eventually into fat!  When Phase 2 is consumed before a starchy meal, it later excretes a solid waste of starch (carbohydrates)!  <em><strong>Phase 2 works by binding itself to the enzyme Amylase </strong></em>which is produced by the pancreas and thus does not convert starch into sugar.  <em><strong>Diabetics may also benefit from Phase 2.  This makes sense because diabetics have trouble controlling their sugar and insulin.  When taking Phase 2 starch will not convert into sugar and then a diabetic doesn&#8217;t need extra insulin to deal with the starch. </strong></em></p>
<p><strong>Why Does Eating STARCH (Carbohydrates) make us gain weight?</strong></p>
<p>After we eat starch an enzyme called Amylase converts starch into simple sugar.  <em><strong>If we have a fast metabolism or we are engaged in enough physical activity/exercise some of these sugars will burn, otherwise it is stored as fat in your body.</strong></em>  Everyone is always worried about consuming too much fat, but many people still are not aware that you must watch your starch intake!  They sneak up on you.  Just remember, if you are sitting all day at work and you consume 2500 hundred calories throughout the day with most of it being carbs, you will be gaining weight if there is no exercise to burn off those calories you are not using.  <em><strong>Phase 2 will neutralize 75% of those,  then you need some to give you energy and lastly with a little bit of exercise you will take care of the rest! </strong></em></p>

<p>First of all, just know that it is always extremely difficult to lose the stubborn last couple of pounds.  The results usually come faster (at least in the beginning) for someone who needs to lose a substaintial amount of weight, such as 50 pounds.  Why?  Any slight healthy lifestyle change can make a huge difference compared to someone trying to lose 5 pounds.  For example, even if they just change one of two things they can lose weight FAST (i.e. cutting out coke, and say chips could make a huge difference).<br />
The key to weight loss for anyone is to remember that <strong>every single body is different,</strong> and you have to figure out <strong>what your weaknesses are, what you can handle, what you can maintain for life and to not beat yourself up.  Determination, positivity and sticking with something are key</strong>.</p>
<p>When people come into Alive Health Centre, Morning Sun or Supplements Plus for weight loss, it is never a simple answer.  I always ask people the following things:</p>
<p><span style="color: #00b050;"><strong>1. Write down your typical day(keep a journal).  For example, what you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Write down your current activity level.</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #00b050;"><strong>2. What are your favourite foods, or type of foods?  What are your weaknesses? Foods that you know are not the best for you but you just can&#8217;t help it.  For some people it is sweets ALL the way, others it is carbohydrates (bread lovers).  Usually for North Americans, it is consuming too many empty calories like a can of coke or a 1000 calorie fast food meal too often.  </strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #00b050;"><strong>3. From your journal entries, you can kind of narrow down what supplements would be best for you.  People that crave sweets, or an excess in carbs may need something to balance their blood sugar like cinamin extract, or PGX for example.</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #17365d;">Below are my favourite products that greatly help with weight loss and healthy living in general:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #17365d;">1. <strong>A cleanse.  Brand: Renew Life First Cleanse 15 days</strong>.  If you think your digestion sucks a cleanse may be in order.  Poor digestion includes: gas, bloating, and you need to have at least one good bowel movement every day!  It&#8217;s even recommended that you have two a day!  The average person only goes every couple of days in North America, this is crazy!  We have a lot of cranky people in this world because they are not eliminating regularily and their body is becoming more and more toxic.  Your regularity/digestion is related to maintaining a healthy weight and the First Cleanse will get the ball rolling.  In addition to the cleanse <strong>Renew Life&#8217;s Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes </strong>are extremely recommended and beneficial to a healthy gut<strong>.  </strong>The cleanse is good for your: liver, kidneys, lungs, lypmphatic system, colon, small intestine, large intestine, cardiovascular system and blood.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #17365d;">2. <strong>Protein Shakes!!! </strong>This is my favourite thing to recommend to you! A good quality protein shake fills you with nutrients, good calories, and it is something easy and tastey!  Make a shake most mornings and if you are hungry in the afternoon, have one at work.  Protein holds you, it protects your lean muscle mass, lean muscle burns existing fat, muscle is your furnace!  Put berries in it; believe it or not they are typically lower in the glycemic index therefore not making your blood sugar spike.  Also they are the richest in Anti-oxidants.  You can experiment and put so many different things in your protein shakes like coconut milk, almond milk, regular milk, walnuts, etc!  There are sooo many recipes you can find.  Also, get a blender!! A good one.  They can be quite pricey but its worth it!  <strong>Protein Brands: Renew Life Fit Smart, PVL Iso Gold, Progressive Harmony Protein, one of the most complete and healthy is&#8230; Vega Whole Meal Replacement by Sequel Naturals!!!! </strong>Amazingly healthy!  SOOO complete.  If you do try it get Vanilla Chai Flavour, mix with Almond milk unsweetened, banana, flax oil, walnuts, some yogurt if you want it thick.  <strong>Oh very important, 1 gram of protein, per 1 pound of body weight each day.</strong>  <strong>When you buy your protein powder you are looking for Whey Isolate (usually for weight loss).</strong>  It is the purest form of protein protecting lean muscle mass.  Great for women, losing weight, and for elderly! Whey concentrate is typically more for body builders or people who use up tones of calories and need the energy for sport.  Whey Concentrate is roughly about 1000 calories per serving whereas Whey Isolate is about 100 to 150 calories per serving depending on the brand.  </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #17365d;">3. <strong>GREEN TEA! </strong>You know this one already, but this will stimulate your metabolism safely and it provides you with antioxidants.  </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #17365d;">4.  Always remember that while supplements help, its not really supplements that are going to be the make it or break it, <strong>it is consistancy in your &#8220;diet for life&#8221; and your activity level</strong>.  Find an activity that you like.  Or if it is variety you like then go for it.  For me I like to use my recumbant bike at home for convenience.  I love prenatal yoga right now, and before I used to love playing badminton, but I can&#8217;t run around at the moment due to the pregnancy.  I also love swimming, but everyone is different.  It really doesn&#8217;t matter what you do, but you have to have the desire to go do it so that you will go consistantly!  One of my relatives needs to pay for something because they hate wasting money.  Once they pay they are commited.  </span><br />
<span style="color: #17365d;">5.  <strong>Up your intake of fibre!!! FIBRE, FIBRE, FIBRE!!!</strong>  <strong>35 grams per day! </strong>You hear it a lot, but you need to eat lots of veges.  Learn how you like them.  Use coconut oil to cook.  Its opposite of what you may think, but cocanut oil is soooo good for your heart, your skin and your hair.  It is safe to cook with, so high heat is great!! Also, you can steam your veges too!  Brocoli, Chinese veges, watercress, and also make soups for dinner with lots of veges.  Just boil water, put a healthy noodle in there, add an egg till it is a honey consistancy, put a chicken thigh in there for flavour and then you can put your veges in there at the last so they are not over cooked.  Red peppers are delicious in there.  All you need is a little salt and pepper.  <strong>Note: stay away from processed packaged foods and sauces.</strong> </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #244061;">6. <strong>Eat 4 to 5 times a day of healthy calories, nutritous calories</strong>.  Smaller but more frequent meals is key.  If you do these things you will feel fantastic!</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #244061;">7. Health wise, get <strong>Greens in your diet, by Genuine Health</strong>, and <strong>take fish oil every day.</strong>  You will look younger for longer.  Its really great for your skin, inflammation, joints, colon health and your hair.  Also, if you can get a multi in you every day that would be fantastic!! <strong>Platinum liquid softgels are the BEST!  </strong></span><br />

<p>Weight loss can be an overwhelming subject.  Most of us are unhappy and frustrated with some part of our body. Women are famous for saying things like, &#8220;<em>I just want to loose weight in my legs or my bum.</em>&#8221; Just remember there is no such thing as spot reducing.    The fact is you must eat healthy and have regular exercise!  We all know this, but we are always looking for some miracle.  When loosing weight, you loose fat all over the body.  Therefore, it is important to have a total body workout so that you can obtain your desired results. Doing crunches will strengthen your core and tighten your abs, but it will not burn fat just in the abdomen.  The more muscle you have the easier it is to loose weight and burn calories; even while your body is at rest. Once you start to see results and give exercise a chance, that is when the ball gets rolling.  You will no longer say, &#8220;I am not cutt out for exercise.&#8221;  You will say, &#8220;Why didn&#8217;t I start this earlier!&#8221; </p>
<p>Above are just some general concepts about weight loss to help you get started.  Now you need some more specific ideas, recommendations and tips so you can see the big picture of weight loss.  When you make a plan, and set your goals, you are more likely to achieve results!</p>
<ol>
<li>If you need help ask!  Seek someone that you feel comfortable with.  You can go to a health store such as us, or a personal trainer or your doctor. </li>
<li>If you need some supplements to get you started and in the right frame of mind this is what I did: <strong><em>Cleansmart 30 days by Renew Life, Alive Brand Relora, Alive Brand CLA, Protein Shake (Brand varies), and Genuine Health Brand Greens +.  </em></strong>This is just an example of what I did.  Keep in mind each of us are different and your supplements may need tweaking.  For example, if you have some serious sugar cravings, you may need <strong><em>PGX by Natural Factors, and some Alive Brand Chromium Picolinate.</em></strong>  Everyone can benefit from a good greens as well as a protein supplement.</li>
<li>Once you have a goal, let your friends and family know.  Having a support group will help you in the end.  We never want to let ouselves down, and we are even less willing to let our friends and family down.  Your loved ones care about you and want to see you succeed!  There is a healthy pressure associated with a support group.</li>
<li>The word &#8220;diet&#8221; is somewhat negative.  Most people associate diet as something &#8220;temporary&#8221;.  Diet also has the connotation of having to cutt out all your favourite foods, thus the word diet sometimes feel like torture for some people.  Instead, try to think of it as, &#8220;eating right for life&#8221; and a chance to explore new foods.  A crash diet is unrealistic.  You will always struggle with weight if you cutt out absolutely everything bad all the time.  Find a balance in your &#8220;eating right for life&#8221; plan.  Some simple adjustments you can make, which are also sustainable include: reducing the intake of dairy, wheat and refined carbs and sugar, decrease red meat consumption, drink plenty of water, drink green tea to help your metabolism, avoid preservatives and replace sugar with stevia a natural sweetener so you still have something sweet to look forward to.   Eat lots of fibre, this will stabilize your blood sugar and reduce sugar cravings and ultimately poor food choices.  Eat plenty of vegetables and lastly, learn how to make healthy food taste good.  Many people think they do not like vegetables, but sometimes they forget to try new ones, or they overcook them.  Make it your goal to learn how to make veges taste great! </li>
<li>The 80/20 rule is great too!  The Japanese are famous for  maintaining a healthy waisteline and one of the ways they do this is, they do not eat until they are stuffed meaning 100% full.  They eat until they are 80% full which is comfortable.  You can still move after!  Western society is notorious for over eating.  Also, as mentioned it is impossible to eat a perfect balanced healthy meal 100% of the time.  Therefore, 80% of the time try to eat the the best you can! Say no to the food court, or take a healthy lunch with you to work.  Then, 20% of the time you can take your grandma&#8217;s offer and eat a piece of her famous blueberry pie, or you eat your neighbours fresh baked cookie or indulge in the family Thanks Giving dinner. </li>
<li>Getting yourself active in activities you like!  There truly is something for everyone.  If you do not like the treadmill, there is sports.  If sports are not your forte, there is always a scenic brisk walk.  If you are not one for the outdoors, there are lifestyle activities such as ballroom dancing.  If you are single or you are not interested in meeting anybody, there are also solo activities such as Karate, Tai Chi, or Yoga.  In all seriousness, even if none of those activities are something you like, there is surely something that you can enjoy while benefiting from the elements of physical activity.</li>
</ol>
<p>Lastly, don&#8217;t let loosing weight be a drag or a dark cloud that is constantly hanging over your head.  I remember feeling this way at one point.  I was 30 pounds overweight and I thought it was impossible for me to get back on track.  It took an attitude adjustment, support, a plan, some eating habit changes, incorportating excercise into my daily routine, and some supplements to help me along the way, none of which were stimulants!  It is possible!  Remember you can always come visit us at <strong><em>Alive Health Centre, Morning Sun and Supplements Plus</em></strong>.  You don&#8217;t have to do this alone, look forward to seeing you!</p>
